Capacitive Desalination Partnership

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Delta Diablo, Stanford University and the County of Los Angeles partner to advance new desalination technology

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has developed a novel capacitive deionization process called flow-through electrode capacitive deionization (FTE-CD), which can significantly reduce energy and desalination costs of brackish water by using electric fields that pull salt from water. Delta Diablo is partnering with LLNL, Stanford, and the County of Los Angeles to pilot test LLNL's FTE-CD device. The following links provide more information, and include a fact sheet on the proposed pilot test program, an article on LLNL's technology, a research paper, and a PowerPoint presentation.
